Professor Mike
Mike will be teaching upper division landscape architecture at UC Davis in winter quarter. The class will apply various design theories to an existing site, and learn to illustrate and present their ideas.
Artist Annette
Annette is designing custom tiles for a large project. When complete, the tiles will form part of a series of elegant Spanish style courtyard gardens.
She designed and helped install a showcase garden featuring a water conservation theme. You can see it here.
American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA)
Both Annette and Mike belong to the ASLA. Annette organized a number of interesting activities, all of which were a lot of work to organize.
Mike was the local chapter's webmaster, and served as Chapter president from 2006-2007.
Their current involvement with the ASLA is pretty much limited to reading the magazine.
International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA)
This is a worldwide organization of landscape architects. They're a lot more interesting than the ASLA, especially when you want to find out alternate ways of doing things, see other design styles and meet people from all over the world.
Both Annette and Mike attended a conference in Mexico City, where water and pollution issues are being dealt with in a number of ways. They came away from the conference with a lot of useful information in a variety of topics not limited to water conservation.
Ryosuke, our intern from Japan
Before jumping into a new major in a foreign country, Ryosuke visited us for a couple of months as an unpaid intern so that he could learn more about landscape architecture as it's rally practiced here. After returning to Japan, he picked up his degree in architecture. He's back in Japan now, but planning to return to the USA to pursue graduate studies in landscape architecture.
